URBAN LEGACIES II: ANOTHER NEW BABYLON

5th-6th OCTOBER 2006, ST DAVID'S HOTEL & SPA, CARDIFF, WALES

As with the original Urban Legacies in 2004, there are two strands to the event:
The Conference - URBAN LEGACIESII: A series of talks and panel debates over two days which take Constant Nieuwenhuys' Situationist theory as the starting point for exploring how temporary and unplanned interventions by artists and creative practitioners are contributing to urban regeneration, and drew on extraordinary experiences from cities across the world, including Sao Paulo, Phoenix, Beirut, Tallinn and Kinshasa. Contributors included artists, architects, academics and curators who are leading new thinking on the role of art in transforming the public realm.
The Commissions - ANOTHER BABYLON: In parallel, a number of commissions by young and acclaimed artists responded to the central theme of the conference. These included temporary installations, film projections and a new piece of music by composer Morgan Hayes, performed by the Music Theatre Wales Ensemble at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay.
